Feel Free to Send This To Your Representative

I wrote the following letter and am sending it out to all my representatives. This letter can be copied by anyone who wishes to use it to let their representative know that we are tired of their poor management and questionable spending habits.

Since being sworn in as president, just 85 short days ago, Barack Obama has increased our national debt by $592 billion. If Mr. Obama continues spending at this rate, by the end of his first year in office he will have increased the debt by $2.5 trillion.

I am perfectly aware that much of our current $11 trillion national debt was inherited by Mr. Obama. That being the case, if Mr. Obama, and the Congress, continue spending at their current rate, they will have almost doubled the national debt to $21 trillion.

When is this madness going to end? According to brillig.com, the webmaster who maintains an online debt clock, each and every citizen of this country currently is responsible for $36,571 of this massive debt.

I will have you know that that is more than I make in a year. Yet according to the same webpage, 40.6% of that national debt is held by the Federal Reserve. That means roughly $4.4 trillion of that debt was just money the Federal Reserve printed out of thin air to finance your insatiable urge to spend more money than you take in in taxes.

Why, I ask, must we the people of this country be required to live within our means, yet our government is free to spend money like a bunch of drunken sailors on shore leave?

Much of the spending done by my government is on items that I find reprehensible. Why should I be required to fund agencies and programs for which I find no constitutional justification?

Therefore, since I find the uncontrolled spending of my government a burden I do not willingly accept, I would like to propose a bit of legislation, or possibly even a constitutional amendment to remedy the problem.

I would like to see the burden of this massive debt shifted to those responsible for it, our elected officials. Therefore, I propose the following;

Whereas the Constitution of these United States does not authorize Congress, nor the President to spend one penny of taxpayer money on items not specifically authorized by Article 1, Section 8,

Whereas, the duly elected representatives of the people have willfully and negligently incurred $11 trillion worth of debt, while that amount continues to increase by , and that debt continues to increase at a rate of $3.85 billion per day,

Whereas, we the people did not specifically ask for, nor incur this debt due to the personal mismanagement of our own finances,

We therefore do hereby declare that,

After each election cycle, a tally shall be made of all presently serving, and former officials, having held office in the United States Senate, House of Representatives, or as President of these United States,

Upon completion of said tally, the national debt will be divided by the total number of representatives and an equal share of said debt shall become that persons obligation, shifting the liability to those rightfully responsible.

It is my sincere desire that this consideration be given the utmost attention. The people of this country cannot continue to shoulder the burden of your ineptitude and unconstitutional expenditures.
