When someone tells you something, have you ever stopped to consider what exactly it is that causes you to accept that they are saying is the truth? Is it because the person speaking is a friend, maybe they are a person you respect, or is it simply because the person holds a position of authority? Whatever a persons reason may be, something causes them to make the decision that what they have heard is in fact the truth.
With that being said, I would venture to guess that most people would admit that, at one time or another, they had believed something to be true, only later to find out it was a falsehood. For instance, how many people have fallen victim to, and even spread a rumor that was eventually discovered to be untrue?
What if an a piece of information was repeated over and over, without ever being proven to be false? Although this information might never be proven to be untrue, it still would, in fact, be false? Or, as Thomas Paine once said, “A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong gives it a superficial appearance of being right.”
Few people may remember this, but during his presidency, George W. Bush once said, “See in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda.”
Propaganda can be both true, and untrue. According to Encarta’s World English Dictionary, one of the definitions for propaganda is “misleading publicity: deceptive or distorted information that is systematically spread .”
Human nature is such that if a lie is told enough times, eventually people will accept it as the truth. However, we would be wise to give credence to something Gandhi once said, “An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does truth become error because nobody sees it.”
When a lie has been told enough times, and has been universally accepted as the truth, when the actual truth is finally shown to people, they often refuse to accept it, or worse, they ridicule the person who presents it to them.
What I’m trying to get at can best be summed up by something Winston Churchill said, “The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.”
When I write, I am only attempting to disseminate the truth as I have come to understand it. You can deride me for believing in far fetched conspiracy theories, call me unpatriotic, or just plain disregard me entirely. Nevertheless, the truth remains the truth, and how you react to it will not change that fact.
I think some people do not want to accept the truth because it might shatter the candy coated illusion that they call reality. It can be a frightening thing to find that everything you believed in was a lie. Consequently many people choose to remain ignorant of the truth, instead of discovering that they have been lied to by people they trusted.
For instance, 911 was the excuse given to wage a global war on terror. It cannot be denied that three buildings came down in New York City, and that thousands of lives were lost in the process. That alone is enough to call for action. But what if everything you had been told about why those buildings came down was a lie? Then everything which was built upon that lie would be a lie as well.
To admit to that fact would mean that the billions of dollars spent on this war on terror was spent fraudulently. It would mean that the hundreds of lives lost by our brave servicemen were lost because they were lied to. That would be very hard to accept for many, but nevertheless if it is the truth, wouldn’t you want to know?
How is it then that aircraft can fly into a building, 800 some odd feet above ground level, spreading jet fuel, which does not burn hot enough to melt steel, yet there was molten steel beams in the basements of these buildings?
How is it that independent analysis of fragments taken from the rubble found traces of explosives? Why is it that these buildings came straight down, at free fall speed, into their own footprint, when no steel framed building had ever done so due to fire?
Now I am not saying that terrorists did not commandeer the planes and fly them into the Twin Towers. However, I am not saying they did. What I am saying is that the aftermath of those planes hitting those buildings is what stirred up our emotions to the point where we went to war with terror. It is why our government, to protect us, began infringing upon our right to privacy. It is why we now have to submit to these full body searches when we board a plane.
So, if all these things were done because of a lie, wouldn’t you want to know that? I would much rather know the truth than submit to degrading searches and who knows how many invasions of my privacy.
Another thing to consider. If you are driving down the road and a police officer pulls you over, what is the first thing they usually say. Normally it is “License and registration please.” What if you refuse to provide them with a drivers license? You will then be arrested for not having the required proof that you are entitled to operate that vehicle.
Our Constitution states that ONLY natural born citizens can hold the office of President of the United States. There have been numerous lawsuits filed to seek the requisite documents, proving that Barack Obama meets those requirements. He, as of now, has refused to do so. The Supreme Court has refused to hear these cases, saying that those filing them hold no standing.
Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying that, “The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government…” Mohandas Gandhi said, “Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.” Therefore, if we the people are the masters, and that our government is there to serve us, and if even one of us demands to see proof that a person meets the requirements to hold public office, then that person must provide that proof. Why has Obama refused to provide the proof asked of him, what has he to hide?
As it stands right now, a decorated Lt. Colonel in the United States Army is facing a court martial because he is refusing to follow orders to deploy to Afghanistan because he does not believe his Commander in Chief holds his position legally. Col. Lakin believes that Barack Obama is not a natural born citizen, and therefore ineligible to issue orders of any kind to U.S. soldiers. All this man seeks is the truth, that Obama provide his birth certificate to be inspected and validated. Yet he is being railroaded for seeking that truth.
How would our system work if a driver refused to provide their drivers license to law enforcement, and when the case went to court the judges said that the police had no right to request proof of eligibility to operate a motor vehicle?
Now, I am not saying Obama is in office illegally, nor am I saying he is eligible to hold the office of President. But if someone wants to know the truth, then the truth should be something they are entitled to instead of having their lives ruined to protect a lie.
Finally, people in this country are hurting. The economic situation is not good, and from all I’ve read it is only going to get worse. People are looking to the government to fix things, to create jobs and get the people working again.
Why are people unemployed, or why have they been forced to take jobs that don’t pay that well? Just go into any store, pick up an item, and then see where it’s made. There is your answer. This country used to be a manufacturing giant. What do we build now? Companies have moved their operations offshore, or brought in workers from other countries who will work for less.
We have unions who impose their demands upon companies, forcing them to move operations overseas where there are no unions to bother them. We have the government giving these corporations huge tax breaks and not imposing tariffs upon goods entering the United States. We have huge trade deficits which further hurts American companies.
If our government would focus on protecting American jobs, American workers, instead of the global economic situation, we Americans would not be hurting the way we are now. Instead they sign treaties which do nothing but harm American workers. They give tax breaks to companies who downsize, or ship their operations to China or a host of other countries.
These bailouts, these economic stimulus packages are not going to do anything to create long term jobs for Americans. They are merely short term subsidies, quick injections of cash, into a system that is collapsing.
Picture a bucket with the bottom missing and you are trying to fill the bucket with a garden hose and you’ll get an idea of how our system is broken. We need to replace the bottom of the bucket before we add any water. In our case, we need to bring manufacturing jobs back to America before we inject any cash into our economy.
These are truths people do not want to see though. They like their cheap prices at Wal Mart and the other big box stores. They do not consider that instead of American workers building the things they buy, they are paying for slave labor in China just so they can save a buck or two on some Playschool item for their kid.
When someone does speak out, tell the truth, they are denigrated and given names like birther, or Tea Bagger. In 1834, Henry Clay stated, “The arts of power and its minions are the same in all countries and in all ages. It marks its victim; denounces it; and excites the public odium and the public hatred, to conceal its own abuses and encroachments.”
Thomas Jefferson told us that “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.” When we choose to disregard the truth because it is too painful, then we are consenting to tyranny. We are consenting to having our rights violated.
Yet too many still remain silent, refuse to seek the truth. Yet, didn’t Buddha once say, “There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.”
Mark Twain once said, “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”
And, in what I consider to be the most stirring oration ever delivered, Patrick Henry said, “Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.”
Words like that have no meaning to people any more. People are too secure in their little cocoons, fearful of going out and seeking the truth. In the Soul of Man Under Socialism, Oscar Wilde writes, “The public have an insatiable curiosity to know everything. Except what is worth knowing.”
That is America today. We have hundreds of channels of mindless drivel on the television, all designed to keep our minds off the truth. We have video games, text messaging, and social networking sites where all people do is chatter mindlessly about anything but what is really important.
Albert Einstein once said, “Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.” As long as Americans blindly believe everything they are told, from the news media all the way up to the highest seats of power, they will not find the truth.
In the book of Psalms, Chapter 120, we read, “Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.”
My only goal when I write is to get people to seek the truth, instead of blindly believing everything they hear. That includes those who consider themselves to be part of the patriot movement. If you get all your information from one source only, how are you to know if it is the truth? Those who listen exclusively to Glenn Beck, or Alex Jones, you need to widen your searches for information. You may be just as guilty as the rest of the nation of being lied, and deceived. A partial truth can often be worse than a complete lie.
I know the things I have said may have offended many. But, to quote from Scripture once again, “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? ”
