My Final Thoughts On The Defense Of Marriage Act

The other day I received an e mail that had been forwarded to me by a reader of my commentaries. The originator of this e mail stated that the most important thing we, as a nation, can do is to get Barack Obama out of the White House. This person stated that because Barack Obama had decided to no longer require the government to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act that he was in violation of Article 2, Section 3 of the Constitution, which states, “…he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed…”

While it is true, by his willful decision to not enforce the Defense of Marriage Act, that he is in violation of that clause of the Constitution, how many other times have Barack Obama, and his predecessors been in violation of that same clause for their willful negligence to ensure that our nations laws be enforced? Could not George W. Bush have been held accountable because he did not ensure that our nation’s immigration laws be upheld as well? For that matter, the same argument could have been used against Bill Clinton and George Bush the elder just as well.

While I do sincerely believe that Barack Obama is one rotten son of a bitch, and is dangerous to this nation, I believe that this clause is being bandied about now just because of the fact that it concerns the Defense of Marriage Act. I believe that because certain groups are so vehemently opposed to same sex marriages, that they are using this clause to ensure that the federal government continue to enforce a law saying that gays not be allowed to marry.

Don’t get me wrong, I, myself, am totally against gay marriages, I think they are a sin and an abomination against nature. But I hold equally dear to my heart the principle that our government was limited by the strict confines of our Constitution. And nowhere in our Constitution does it say that the federal government can decide who can, and cannot get married.

The Defense of Marriage Act was signed into law by former President Clinton, of all people. In part, it states that, neither the federal government, nor any state government, be required to recognize same sex marriages performed in other states. It also clearly defines, as far as the federal government is concerned, marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Honestly, if ANYONE needs to be held accountable for violating Article2, Section 3 of the Constitution, it is Bill Clinton. He, as acting president at the time, signed into law, a bill sent to him by the Congress that was clearly unconstitutional. Being that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, he should be charged with not ensuring the law of the land is faithfully executed.

If you ask me, everyone, from the President, all the way down to the lowest staff member on the Congressional payroll, needs to be removed from public office. They are all corrupt and not worthy of the public trust. Each of them are guilty of violating their oaths of offices, which state, “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same…”

For their crimes against the people of this nation, each and every one of them should be stripped of all rank and privileges associated with their office and be forced to forfeit all pay and benefits, then be forced to live and work under the very laws they have enacted.

Sure, Barack Obama is dangerous to our liberty, and our nation overall. It would please me to no end to see him gone, out of the picture, removed from public office never to be heard from again. But then what? There is a quote that has made its way around the internet a few times that I firmly believe.

It states, “The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.”

“The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

Even if the people were successful in having Obama removed from office for his failure to ensure that our laws be faithfully executed, the people of this country would just elect another clown just like him.
If you want my honest opinion, I hold the people of this country more accountable than I do the people whom they elect. They voted for them, they failed to keep a watchful eye on them, they are the ones who have allowed this to happen.

So, I may agree with the argument that Barack Obama is indeed guilty of violating Article 2, Section 3 of the Constitution, if he were impeached based upon that offense, not a damn thing is going to change in this country until the people themselves stop electing idiots like him. And, as Forrest Gump once said, “That’s all I have to say about that.”
